20th Century London Fiction

The 20th century has seen remarkable changes in London: there's been widespread regeneration of its Victorian slums, but the collapse of many industries has left vast areas derelict. The Second World War brought nightly Luftwaffe bombing raids that destroyed countless homes and iconic public buildings. Postwar immigration began the process that now sees over 300 languages spoken here. Swinging London in the 1960s was the place to be seen. In the 1980s the Square Mile reinvented itself as one of the most important economic hubs in the world. And amidst all this tumult, the people of London have lived out their ordinary and extraordinary lives.

You find the flavour of the changing decades in our pick of 20th century London fiction.
