All At Sea - Decca Aitkenhead in conversation with Alastair Campbell

Tuesday 19th April 2016 7pm - 8:30pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event, Chargeable Event

Decca Aitkenhead, the award-winning Guardian journalist and author of the travel writing classic The Promised Land, will be joining us to discuss her new memoir, All at Sea.

All at Sea finds Aitkenhead, a woman most famous for her interviews with leading politicians, looking inward and reflecting on her unlikely relationship with her partner Tony, a dreadlocked criminal with a history of violence when they met. It was a pairing that no one thought would last –  – but it did, and transformed both their lives. Until it ended in tragedy one hot still morning in Jamaica, when Tony was swept away before her eyes whilst saving their son from drowning.

Exploring race and redemption, privilege and prejudice, All at Sea is a remarkable story of love and loss, of how one couple changed each other’s lives and of what a sudden death can do to the people who survive.

At this event, she’ll be discussing the book and her career thus far with British journalist and political aide Alastair Campbell. It will be followed by a Q&A with Aitkenhead as well as an opportunity to get your copy of All at Sea signed.
