Arabic Literature in English: An evening with prizewinning translators Jonathan Wright & William Maynard Hutchins

Thursday 13th February 2014 7pm - 8:30pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event, Free Event

The joint winners of the 2013 Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation discuss their winning novels and the art of translation with fellow literary translator Paul Starkey. Azazeel, translated by Jonathan Wright (below left), tells an enthralling tale set in 5th-century Egypt and Syria by Egyptian author Youssef Ziedan, which won the 2009 International Prize for Arabic Fiction, and A Land Without Jasmine, translated by William Maynard Hutchins (below right), is a gripping page-turner from young Yemeni author Wajdi Al-Ahdal. Enjoy a glass of wine and listen to Jonathan and William read from their winning translations in this celebration of the best of Arabic fiction.
