Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy truly set the world ablaze with the publication of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo back in 2005. Having sold more than eighty million books, winning multiple awards and being adapted twice for the big screen, Larsson's taut thrillers made troubled hacker Lisbeth Salander and investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist household names and inspired a legion of fans reading across nearly forty languages.
Originally planned as ten novels, the Millennium series was cut short by Larsson's sudden death in 2004 at the age of just fifty. Now, with the blessing of the Larsson estate, Swedish author and journalist David Lagercrantz takes up the mantle to continue the story of Salander and Blomkvist in The Girl in the Spider's Web.
Lagercrantz—author of Fall of Man in Wilmslow, and perhaps best known in the UK for ghostwriting the breakout memoir I Am Zlatan—previously worked the crime desk at Swedish newspaper Expressen, and was selected by the Larsson family in part for his ability to portray complex, brilliant, peculiar characters. At once a revival of Larsson's world and a whole new work by an author in his own right, Spider's Web has been shrouded in secrecy since first announced: written on a computer with no internet connection, submitted to the publisher strictly by hand, this is a publication the security around which is matched only by our anticipation.
Without doubt one of the publishing events of the year, we're pleased to welcome the author to the stage as he discusses this new work with writer and broadcaster Mark Lawson. Revisit the Millennium universe and reunite with beloved characters as Lagercrantz unpacks his much-anticipated follow-up to Stieg Larsson's cherished trilogy.
