Horrorgami: Paper Dandy's Gruesome Kirigami
This Halloween join Marc Hagan-Guirey—aka Paper Dandy—for an evening of petrifying papercraft as he presents his new book Horrorgami: 20 Gruesome Scenes to Cut and Fold.
Working in the Japanese art of kirigami, Paper Dandy's elaborate papercuts have inspired delight in a legion of fans. From architectural structures to scenes from Star Wars, his work reconfigures the boundaries of what can be done with a sheet of paper and a scalpel, playing with space and silhouette to create pieces for private and public commissions, art exhibitions--and now a book.
Published by Laurence King, Paper Dandy's Horrorgami is adapted from Marc's 2012 exhibition of the same name, in which he showcased thirteen sculptures inspired by classic horror movies and books. From a haunted house to Dracula's castle, from A Nightmare on Elm Street to Edgar Allan Poe, Paper Dandy's Horrorgami takes you step-by-step through twenty increasingly advanced builds—with free cut-out guides for every scene.
The artist—who left his job as Head of Design for a Soho ad agency in order to embark on the Horrorgami project—joins us to talk through the papercutting process, his love of horror, and how he married the two to create his own brand of gruesome kirigami.
Marc will also be signing copies of Horrorgami: 20 Gruesome Scenes to Cut and Fold.
