Local Author Reception with Kit de Waal, Anthony Ferner and Liz Berry

Wednesday 25th May 2016 6:30pm - 8pm Grand Central Birmingham Literary Event, Free Event

We are absolutely delighted to be hosting our second Local Author Reception in Birmingham and we hope you will join us in continuing to celebrate the literary talent right on our doorstep. This time we are joined by rising fiction star, Kit de Waal, talented poet Liz Berry and local author and academic Anthony Ferner.

Kit de Waal is the author of debut novel My Name is Leon, which tells the story of Leon, a nine-year-old boy who is threatened with being separated from his family. With a strong narrative voice and a powerful depiction of early-eighties racial tensions in Britain, it announces Kit as a major new voice in fiction.

Liz Berry was born in the Black Country and now lives in Birmingham. She received an Eric Gregory Award in 2009, an Arvon-Jerwood Mentorship in 2011 and won the Poetry London competition in 2012. Amongst numerous acolades, Liz’s debut collection, Black Country (Chatto & Windus, 2014), was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, received a Somerset Maugham Award, won the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Award and won the Forward Prize for Best First Collection 2014.

Anthony Ferner was professor of international business at Leicester Business School for many years and has published many works of non-fiction, mainly about the behaviour of multinational companies, and his short story ‘Tanks’ was shortlisted for the Irish Times Summer Short Story Competition in 2014. Winegarden is his first novel and he is currently working on two novels about the impact of a fragmenting Europe on the lives of individuals.

The evening will kick off with the writers introducing themselves and giving a short reading from one of their titles. Then there will be the opportunity to meet the authors, mingle and enjoy some complimentary refreshments. We will be selling a selection of their titles on the night and the authors will be happy to sign copies.

Join us for another entertaining evening celebrating three fantastic writers.
