Mechanic’s Institute Review 9 Launch with Nick Alexander, Julia Bell, Alison Macleod & Phoebe Blatton

Thursday 22nd November 2012 6:30pm - 8pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event, Free Event

Now in its ninth issue, literary anthology The Mechanics' Institute Review (MIR) continues to promote new writing, with an emphasis on the power fiction has to surprise, inspire and entertain.
Produced, edited and published by students on MA programmes at Birkbeck, University of London, MIR9 showcases the best emerging talent from the Birkbeck Creative Writing Programme. The issue also features work from notable authors Nick Alexander, Jenn Ashworth, Julia Bell and Alison MacLeod, plus illustrations by artist Lucy Jones.
MIR9 curates stories that traverse a broad geographical and metaphorical terrain, taking in both the domestic and the exotic. The stories in this collection are rich in ideas and ambitious in form, actively defying the notion that Creative Writing programmes produce homogenised writing.

Venue: the Gallery at Foyles, 113 - 119 Charing Cross Road
Tickets: FREE. Email a.taylor@bbk.ac.uk to reserve
