The Forward Prizes for Poetry

The Forward Prizes for Poetry were created by publisher William Sieghart in 1991, with the first awards made the following year. There are three awards: Best Collection (winning £10,000), the Felix Dennis Prize for Best First Collection (£5000) and Best Single Poem (£1000). All are open to poets from the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

The Prizes are administered by the Forward Arts Foundation, which also coordinates National Poetry Day. Each year, poems by the winners and shortlisted authors, along with a selection of other entries highly commended by the judges, are published in the annual Forward Book of Poetry.

The Forward Prizes, sponsored since their launch in 1992 by the content marketing agency, Bookmark (formerly Forward Worldwide), have been won by some of the best-loved names in poetry: Thom Gunn, Seamus Heaney, Ted Hughes, Carol Ann Duffy and Kathleen Jamie.

The 2107 shortlists were announced on 12th June and the winners will be announced in September.
