YA Book Prize

YA logo 2017The YA Book Prize was established in 2014 by The Bookseller, the the main trade publication of the British book trade, in response to concern from publishers about an absence of prizes recognising this area of literature. The prize is sponsored by story-sharing start-up Movellas.

The prize is open to all British and Irish writers of Young Adult literature, with titles pubished in each calendar year eligible for entry for that year's award. The judges are tasked identifying titles that particularly inspire or engage the core audience of teenage and young adult readers. The winner receives a cheque for £2000.

The inaugural winner was Only Ever Yours by Louise O'Neill.

The 2016 winner, was Sarah Crossan for her novel One, a story told in blank verse of two conjoined twins. You can read an exclusive interview with Srah here.

The 2017 shortlist was announced on March 2nd and included 3 debut writers as well as such established figures as Malorie Blackman and Francesca Simon. The winner, announced at an awards ceremony at Hay Festival on 1st June, was Patrice Lawrence for Orangeboy.
