When first diagnosed with cancer, columnist Chris Geiger spent hours scouring bookshops, desperately hunting for books written by people who had fought and survived cancer. He found that most had been ghost written for celebrities, and spent little or no time actually describing the treatment that they had gone through or, more importantly, how they survived. After his own two-year fight against cancer, Chris has gone on to run the London Marathon, despite having only one functioning lung, and has now used his experiences to inspire this book.
The Cancer Survivors Club is a collection of truly inspirational, uplifting and assuring survival stories, submitted from readers of Chris's regular newspaper columns and in response to the worldwide publication of his 'Guinness World Record' newspaper article, together with his radio tour. Its main focus is to help, encourage and inspire people touched by cancer, and to provide hope and inspiration for current sufferers. With someone being diagnosed with cancer every two minutes in the UK, this is something that will have affected, and will affect, most of us in our lives. This invaluable read, featuring poignant personal accounts from normal people, demonstrates an extraordinary determination to survive against the odds.
In 2011, Chris won the 'Columnist of the Year' award, sponsored by EDF Energy, for his light-hearted newspaper columns, publicising the disease and cancer charities. He splits his time between Bristol and Delray Beach, USA.
We are delighted to host the UK launch for The Cancer Survivors Club, which has been published this autumn in paperback. Tickets are free but spaces are limited, so please email email@example.com to reserve yours.
