Quick Reads: 10th Anniversary Evening

Wednesday 3rd February 2016 7pm - 8:30pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event, Free Event

Quick Reads event authorsSORRY - FULLY BOOKED

Join us for an inspiring evening of readings and discussion with acclaimed authors to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Quick Reads and the launch of the 2016 books, which are sponsored by Galaxy chocolate for the sixth year. Chaired by Cathy Rentzenbrink, the evening's writers—Fanny Blake, Rowan Coleman, Matt Haig, Elizabeth Buchan and Veronica Henry—will take the stage to read from their short stories collected in The Anniversary, edited by Veronica Henry, to celebrate this landmark year.

1 in 6 adults of working age in the UK find reading difficult and may never pick up a book.  People’s reasons for not reading are varied but are often based in fear. Some people say they find books scary and intimidating, thinking they are ‘not for them’ or that books are difficult or boring. Quick Reads sets out to challenge these beliefs and to show that books and reading can be for everyone. Each year they commission big name authors to write short books that are specifically designed to be easy to read.  They are the same as mainstream books in every respect but are simply shorter and easier to tackle for adults who are less confident in their reading skills. The books are then sold through major retailers and online booksellers and are loaned from libraries.

A brand new list of six bitesize books from well-known authors will be published for 2016 to help all adults discover the pleasure and benefits of a good read. The 2016 Galaxy Quick Reads are:

The Anniversary: Ten Tempting Stories From Ten Bestselling Authors (edited by Veronica Henry)
The Double Clue: Poirot Short Stories by Agatha Christie (edited by Sophie Hannah and John Curran)
Too Good to be True by Ann Cleeves
A Baby at the Beach Café by Lucy Diamond
On the Rock by Andy McNab
I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban (An Abridged Edition) by Malala Yousafzai with Christina Lamb
