Gollancz Festival 2017 - Morning

Saturday 4th November 2017 11am - 1pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event, Signing, Chargeable Event

Esteemed science fiction and fantasy publisher Gollancz hosts a large selection of their authors for a morning of panel discussions and signing in the Foyles auditorium.

The session will run from 11am until 1pm, and will be followed by a signing by all authors from 13:00 - 14:00.

Who you gonna call, Ghostwriters!

Ghosts, ghouls, goblins and all manner of ghastly c(g)reatures creep across the pages of some of our favourite books and along haunted streets lined with haunted houses. Join our panellists Ben Aaronovitch, Joanne Harris, AK Benedict, Catriona Ward and AK Benedict for a discussion of things that go bump in the night (or late-morning in this case).

Authors speaking at this session:

Ben Aaronovitch, Joanne Harris, AK Benedict, Caitriona Ward and Joe Hill

Chairperson: tbc

The future’s so bright I gotta wear shades: New advances in Science (Fiction)

It’s not all doom and gloom in our crystal ball. Advances in all areas of technology, from medicine, renewables and genetics to space travel, communications and physics make our brave new world a bright and wondrous place. Join our panellists Justina Robson, Christopher Priest, Gavin Smith, Al Robertson and Tricia Sullivan for an optimistic look at the near-future. How will life change over the next few decades and how will it feature in our science fiction?

Authors speaking at this session:

Justina Robson, Christopher Priest, Gavin Smith, Al Robertson, Tricia Sullivan

Chairperson: tbc

12:20- 13:00

Where do you get your ideas? Art, Music, Mythology & Magic – the inspirations behind it all

'From a little ideas shop in Bognor Regis' may be an answer, but not the answer (which always is and shall be 42). On the other hand, the other real answer is nowhere near as satisfying, which is that it’s mostly all just made up, out of a writer’s head. But how they get in there in the first place? Now, that’s interesting. Join our panellists Suzanne McLeod, Tom Toner, Tom Lloyd, Bradley Beaulieu, and Mark Barrowcliffe as they talk about other books, other art and how they feed into their own ideas.
