107 Charing Cross Road
Exhibition, Free Event
POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
110 years ago, William and Gilbert Foyle failed their civil service exams, and took out an ad in the newspaper to sell the used textbooks they no longer needed. Such was the demand, that they continued to buy and sell, buy and sell, until what they humbly came to call The World's Greatest Bookshop was born. We've made our business selling stories, but the story of Foyles itself is not ours alone - it's been made by the countless book-lovers who have wandered among the shelves for decade after decade. For this reason, we'll be handing over the Gallery space at Charing Cross Road this August to you, creating an immersive exhibition that captures the many faces of Foyles past, present and future.
We're asking you to submit your own personal memories of Foyles for an August exhibition. Whether they are old photos, sketches or paintings of our shop(s), or even written histories, memorabilia and souvenirs; come and see our story unfold on the Gallery walls, told by the customers who have made us what we are today.
We just ask that participants comply with the requirements below.
Venue: The Gallery at Foyles, Third Floor, Charing Cross Road
Opening hours: Mon-Sat 9.30am-5pm, Sun 11.30am-6pm
