CANCELLED Poetry Please with Tim Dee and James Cook
CANCELLED Poetry Please has been the nation's poetry jukebox since 1979, making it the longest running broadcast of verse anywhere in the world. Writer and former presenter Frank Delaney described it as 'wonderfully democratic, because you open the postbag and there is a request there for a poem you have either never heard of, by a poet whose name is completely strange to you, or something you have adored since childhood and whose phrases have been part of your many inner soundtracks, and either of those is a delight.'
To mark the publication of the new Poetry Please anthology, Tim Dee (left) and James Cook (right) from the BBC Poetry Unit in Bristol present a celebration of the most requested poems in the show's history, with live readings, audience requests and unique insights into the story of a broadcasting national treasure.
