When you buy a book from a bookshop, you get something you may well value for the rest of your life. You may have found that book on purpose - you walked right in knowing exactly what you wanted. You may have stumbled upon it, the time and circumstance just right for you to encounter that perfect read. Or a bookseller may have pressed it into your hands, insisting that you cannot live another day without experiencing the words found on those pages.
Bookshops exist for just that purpose - to connect you with stories, to plug you in to someone else's imagination and let you have a wander. And today, we hope you'll join in as bookshops up and down the country celebrate what it is we do best, as part of a campaign called Books Are My Bag.
Instore at Foyles we'll have events, activities and prize giveaways, but most importantly we'll have books. Hundreds of thousands of them. And one that's meant just for you.
At Charing Cross Road, characters from Neil Gaiman's fantastically bonkers new book Fortunately, the Milk will be running riot from 12 noon (and, more importantly, handing out sweets).
From 2pm the good people of Peirene Press - one of our favourite independent publishers - will be showcasing their gorgeous range of titles on the Ground Floor, accompanied by complimentary wine and cheese.
The Café will play host to Greek folk-influenced jazz outfit, the Valia Calda Project, at 6pm, who will take to the Ray's Jazz stage to present their Mediterranean melodies and complex Balkan rhythms.
The phizz-whizzing storytellers of the Roald Dahl Museum will be embarking on a mini-tour of our shops, bringing to life a selection of Roald Dahl's most swizfiggling tales. Catch them at Westfield London from 11am-12noon, at Westfield Stratford City from 1pm-2pm or at Charing Cross Road from 3pm-6pm.
And throughout the day across all of our shops we'll be running lucky dips and entering customers in our prize draw, with the chance to win a £100 Foyles gift card, 'Golden Tickets' to the Roald Dahl Museum and signed copies of Neil Gaiman's new book.
