CANCELLED Roman Capitals Workshop with the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society

Saturday 19th October 2013 9am - 12 Noon 107 Charing Cross Road Chargeable Event

CANCELLED DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES Capital letters give gravitas to our language. They emphasise what is important, give us guidance in interpreting the structure of sentences, abbreviations and names. They have been with us for many centuries and our present forms were first described by the Romans. Examples of these can still be seen clearly in their incised letters on buildings, arches and columns around their previous Empire. These letters have their own rules regarding width, ratio and spacing. By using the simple tools of pencil and paper we will learn to interpret these rules using the skeleton form of the letters. Then we will experiment in breaking the rules to make this short workshop fun.
Led by Marion McKenzie
