Andrew Marr – A Small Exhibition About Drawing
Tuesday 5th November 2013 9:30am - Saturday 16th November 2013 5pm
107 Charing Cross Road
Exhibition, Free Event
Like millions of others, Andrew Marr draws. He hasn't had lessons, yet since childhood, the journalist and TV presenter has been at his happiest with a pen or brush in his hand. One way or another he draws most days, even if it's just a doodle on the edge of a newspaper. But why does he do it? Does it have a point? And in what way, if any, does this activity of his relate to what we think of as 'art'? In his intriguing new book A Short Book About Drawing, Andrew Marr explores the subject of drawing and painting through his own experience.
In this exclusive exhibition we present a selection of Marr's own sketches, drawings and paintings, which illustrate his book and illuminate his engaging reflections on the mechanics of the artistic process and the importance of the act of making for a happy life. These vivid and diverse pieces, some scribbled in notebooks on assignment in an exotic locale, others carefully observed and rendered on Marr's iPad from his hospital bed, provide a meditation on the complex pleasures of putting pencil to paper.
Andrew Marr will also be giving a talk about the exhibition and his latest book on Tuesday 12th November, 6:30pm - 7:30 pm. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a ticket.
