Exhibition: Michael Rosen’s Alphabetical

Tuesday 5th November 2013 9:30am - Saturday 23rd November 2013 9pm 107 Charing Cross Road Exhibition, Free Event

The 26 characters in Michael Rosen's new book are without doubt the most familiar in all of literature, yet their stories are very rarely told. Alphabetical sets out to rectify that, delving back through the history of letters, from the mysterious Phoenicians who first came up with the idea of writing down sounds, through umlauts and Viking runes, to computer keyboards, text-speak and the origins of 'OK'.

To celebrate the publication of Alphabetical: How Every Letter Tells a Story in November, John Murray are creating a collection of your individual letters and what they mean to you. They can be drawn, found, photographed, designed, any way at all. Each letter will be uploaded into an online gallery, along with what the letters mean to you, at www.alphabeticompetition.tumblr.com. To enter: tweet your alphabet letter, and your story behind it, to @johnmurrays using the hashtag #alphabetical.

The Alphabetical launch event will be at Foyles Charing Cross Rd on the evening of 6th November, and there will also be an exhibition of the wonderful alphabet artwork from the book on display in the café.

The deadline for entries is 30th November.
