John Butt OBE in conversation with James Jolly on his new recording of Mozart’s Requiem with the Dunedin Consort

Tuesday 1st April 2014 6:30pm - 7:30pm 107 Charing Cross Road Music Event

The Dunedin Consort has established a reputation as one of the finest period performance choirs around, under the direction of prize-winning historical performance specialist John Butt OBE. Since receiving a Gramophone Award in 2007, critics have continued to heap praise upon the group, with Gramophone naming them as one of their 'Twenty Greatest Choirs' in 2011, The Times voting their Esther one of the 'Top 10 Classical Albums of 2012' and their two Bach recordings in 2013 winning universal praise.

MozartIn their new record on the Linn label they take on the challenge of one of the most beloved works in the choral repertoire: Mozart's tragically unfinished Requiem. With Gramophone editor-in-chief and Radio 3 presenter James Jolly in the chair, John Butt discusses his fresh approach to the work, which seeks to recreate the sound world of the work's premiere using forces similar to those at the first performances, and a brand new edition of Süssmayr's much maligned completion of the score.

This evening offers a vivid insight into eighteenth- and twenty-first-century music-making, in the company of one of this country's most respected choral conductors.
