We're doing it. We're starting a book club.
Come along to the inaugural Foyles Book Club meeting and share your thoughts on the novel of the month with a group of like-minded (or completely not like-minded) souls. With a glass of wine in one hand and an emphatic gesture in the other, this is an opportunity to meet fellow Foyles readers and hear a range of perspectives on a novel much-loved or completely new to you.
In advance of our first meeting we're setting the first book: Lady Chatterley's Lover. As well as being a big part of Foyles history, DH Lawrence's modern classic is ever ripe for discussion. Is it still controversial? What is its place in history? How much has literature changed, and how much have we? When does literary sex become literary smut? And what about class?
Several versions, multiple adaptations and countless editions make this a book still very much in the public consciousness, and as such we've chosen it to launch what we hope to be an ongoing space for informed discussion, and a great way to get together.
