Patrick Gale: A Place Called Winter

Thursday 26th March 2015 7pm - 8pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event, Chargeable Event

From the author of bestselling novels Notes From an Exhibition and Rough Music, Patrick Gale's A Place Called Winter is an historical novel of intrigue, romance and sexuality that comes praised by fellow writers including Armistead Maupin, Matt Haig and Jojo Moyes.

With the nuance and eye for human detail that hall-mark his writing, Gale's epic sees the broad forces of emigration and war collide with its characters' own secrets across Edwardian England and the newly-colonised prairies of Canada. Inspired by a true story in the author's own family history, this is a saga on both an individual and a social scale, told in the heartfelt prose of a contemporary master.

We welcome the charismatic Gale onstage to discuss this latest turn in his well-established career. Chaired by Claire Armistead, Books Editor for the Guardian, this will be an evening of insight into the connection between literature and history, and the personal backstories that inform Gale's perennially popular work.
