Birds, Tigers and Terrible Lizards: Live Poetry with Sidekick Books

Friday 20th May 2016 2pm - 3pm Foyles at Waterloo Station Literary Event, Free Event

Celebrate the spoken word at this afternoon of live poetry with a selection of poets published by Sidekick Books.

Talented poets and inspiring performers,  James Coghill, Dzifa Benson, Peter Daniels, Kirsten Irving, Lorraine Mariner and Jon Stone will be joining us for a live poetry performance on the mezzanine level at our Waterloo store.

James Coghill is an ecopoet currently based on the south coast. He has most recently been published in Lighthouse Literary Journal and Blackbox Manifold and features in Sidekick Books' Birdbook: Farmland, Heathland, Mountain, Moorland and Lives Beyond Us.

Dzifa Benson has read and performed her prose and poetry nationally and internationally at venues including Tate Britain, Glastonbury Festival, the Houses of Parliament, and the Shakespeare & Company Bookshop, Paris.

Peter Daniels has won a number of poetry competitions, and his translations of Vladislav Khodasevich were shortlisted for several awards. His collection Counting Eggs appeared from Mulfran Press (Cardiff) in 2012, and Gatehouse (Norwich) will publish A Season in Eden in September 2016.

Kirsten Irving has edited more than a dozen anthologies of poetry and illustration, and performed at venues across the country. Her books include What To Do (Happenstance, 2011) and Never Never Never Come Back (Salt, 2012).

Lorraine Mariner has published two collections with Picador, Furniture (2009), which was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and the Seamus Heaney Centre Poetry Prize, and There Will Be No More Nonsense (2014).

Jon Stone is a London-based poet and publisher. He has performed his work at the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and on BBC Radio 3 and 4, as well as at festivals. School of Forgery (Salt, 2012) was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, and his latest pamphlet is Tomboys (Tungsten Press, 2016), which is available in a limited edition of 74 signed copies.
