CANCELLED. On the Monday after Pride, Attitude editor Matthew Todd is joined by transgender activist Paris Lees and Diva editor Jane Czyzselska to look at the issues raised in his new book Straight Jacket: How to Be Gay and Happy.
Straight Jacket is Matthew's revolutionary clarion call for gay men, the wider LGBTQ+ community, and their friends and family. Part memoir, part ground-breaking polemic, it looks beneath the shiny facade of contemporary gay culture and asks if gay people are as happy as they could be - and if not, why not?
Paris Lees is a transgender activist, presenter and journalist, whose writing has appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines. As an activist, she worked with Trans Media Watch, a group that challenged Channel 4 to remove transphobic material from its broadcasts, and currently works with All About Trans, a project bringing together trans people with journalists and broadcasters.
Jane Czyzselska is the editor of DIVA magazine and a qualified counsellor and a member of the LGBT/GSM counselling community, Pink Therapy.
Matthew will be reading from Straight Jacket before the panel talk together about growing up in a homo/bi/lesi/trans-phobic society, its mental health repercussions on young people, and what we can do to change things both individually and collectively. Matthew will be signing books after the event.
