Local Author Reception: Mary Finnigan and Mags MacKean

Wednesday 5th April 2017 6:30pm - 8pm Cabot Circus, Bristol Literary Event, Free Event

As part of our quest to showcase great writers we host a series of Local Author Receptions at Foyles Bristol. For the first session of 2017, we have invited two great local authors who address key themes from social history to self-fulfilment, through their remarkable books. We are delighted to welcome writers, Mary Finnigan and Mags MacKean.

Journalist and broadcaster, Mary Finnigan welcomed David Bowie into her home in the London suburb of Beckenham, supported him financially and provided him with the foundations for his subsequent rise to his iconic status. In Psychedelic Suburbia – an intimate and personal account of life with David Bowie on the cusp of stardom - Mary presents an entirely new insight into the social history of 1969 when Bowie lived, worked and played with the author.

Acclaimed by Bear Grylls as ‘one of life’s braves!’, Mags MacKean explores how one woman gave up her high-powered career to climb mountains in her new book, The Upside Down Mountain. Against everyone’s advice, Mags gave up her steady TV job and social scene to pursue her mountaineering passion and chased the seasons from one hemisphere to the other and scaled some of the world’s most beautiful and challenging peaks. But in the end – near the summit of one of these peaks – she questioned what on earth she was doing up there, and decided to look downwards, rather than upwards, for fulfilment. The Daily Express describes it as: 'a sat nav for the men and women of the road less travelled.'

The evening will kick off with the writers introducing themselves and giving a short reading. Then there will be the opportunity to meet the authors, mingle and enjoy some complimentary refreshments. We will be selling a selection of their books on the night and the authors will be happy to sign copies.

Join us in celebrating the literary talent right on our doorstep with this mid-week treat.

Tickets: This is a free event, simply add the required number of tickets to the basket below. Please note, no physical tickets will be issued (to save the trees!). Your email confirmation is proof of booking.
