LARGER, BETTER & MORE INFORMATIVE FOR THE RTA/PI PRACTITIONER An appreciation by Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green Chambers The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) has joined forces with Jordans Publishing to produce a series of titles which explain the more important areas of personal injury. The APIL President, Amanda Stevens, described the first edition of the ‘Guide to RTA Liability’ as ‘an absolute gem’. And she is quite right! Probably, for many practitioners in the county courts, it’s the book of first choice when you need to check on any of the finer points of road traffic liability law. The statement of RTA law is brilliantly presented in a very clear and user friendly format and the step-by-step tips on the practicalities of litigation very well explained for the novice and the experienced advocate. The book has 25 chapters, each focusing on specific aspects of RTA liability. In addition, there are useful materials and precedents which we find invaluable in this area of law, especially at county court level where the bulk of the actions are heard. For the second edition, Andrew Ritchie QC has thoroughly updated his work and included coverage of developments in some of these areas of interest to the practitioner: • Claims made in the UK arising from foreign accidents • New EC directive consolidating all old RTA Directives • Pedestrians run down when drunk • Failure to wear a seat belt • What is a motor vehicle? Trail bikes and electric trikes • A new section on draft model pleadings As Amanda Stephens says, when she expected the first edition ‘to be good’… it was, and the second edition is something we cannot be without when conducting RTA trials and advising in this contentious area of litigation!
