Salon London: The Transmission Prize 2016

Thursday 4th February 2016 6:30pm - 8:45pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event, Chargeable Event

Now in its fourth year, Salon London's Transmission Prize rewards writers, speakers, scientists, philosophers and activists for their ideas and the way they communicate them. The Salon Prize is judged on the criteria of originality, utility, beauty and communication, and this event looks back at the big themes and ideas that caught our hearts and minds in 2015, and offers a chance to get to grips with the work and ideas of the eight nominees before announcing the winner of the 2016 Transmission Prize.

The judging panel's nominees this year are:

Neuropsychologist Dr Catherine Loveday's work to show how the songs we love are entwined with our sense of who we are.

Urban Birder David Lindo for giving us back the skies with his superb nature/city hacks.

Astrobiologist Professor Lewis Dartnell for The Knowledge: how to rebuild the world scientifically following an apocalypse.

Activist Sarah Corbett for giving tools for all to protest gently with her Craftivist Collective.

Professor Theodore Zeldin for his work to promote big revolutionary thinking about how we live by looking at what is unique in our lives.

Sustainability expert Tony Juniper for making us aware of how much nature does for us, economically.

Author, journalist and broadcaster Rick Edwards on how he got young voters to the ballot box in 2015.

Neuroscientist Dr Vicky Williamson for her elegant fight against the dismissal of the use and understanding of music in understanding the brain.

For more information about The Transmission Prize, visit their website.

Venue: The Auditorium at Foyles, Level 6, 107 Charing Cross Road

Tickets: £15 via the Transmission Prize website.
