The School of Life is an organisation devoted to developing emotional intelligence through the help of culture. Where at school we are taught maths and science, The School of Life titles its courses according to topics that affect the way we live our day-to-day lives: careers, relationships, politics and family life. Foyles is proud to be partnering with The School of Life to bring you a series of Mini Sessions where we will be introducing the ideas explored in their The School of Life Press collection.
Join us for our first session where philosopher and founder of The School of Life, Alain de Botton, will be discussing Great Thinkers, the book that provides the framework for the school’s intellectual project.
Great Thinkers is a collection of some of the most important ideas of Eastern and Western culture - drawn from the works of philosophers, political theorists, sociologists, artists and novelists who have the most to offer to us today.
Alain de Botton, whose work has been described as a ‘philosophy of everyday life’, will be talking us through some of the concepts explored in Great Thinkers. His own books cover a range of themes including love, travel, architecture and literature with his latest novel, The Course of Love, being an unparalleled meditation on modern relationships.
Keep an eye out for our other upcoming mini events in the series:
The School of Life on Relationships – July
The School of Life on Calm – September
The School of Life on Finding a Job to Love – November
Alain de Botton will be signing copies of his own books on the night.
