The Muse: Jessie Burton in conversation with Alex Clark

Thursday 21st July 2016 7pm - 8:30pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event, Chargeable Event

Join us for a intimate evening of conversation with Jessie Burton, author of the bestselling The Miniaturist, as she introduces us to her new novel The Muse.

On a hot July day in 1967, Odelle Bastien climbs the stone steps of the Skelton gallery in London, knowing that her life is about to change forever. Having struggled to find her place in the city since she arrived from Trinidad five years ago, she has been offered a job as a typist under the tutelage of the glamorous and enigmatic Marjorie Quick. But though Quick takes Odelle into her confidence, and unlocks a potential she didn’t know she had, she remains a mystery to Odelle – no more so than when a lost masterpiece with a secret history is delivered to the gallery.

Thoughtful and suspenseful, Jessie Burton's The Muse is her most ambitious work to date and every bit thework of the woman who enraptured readers around the world with The Miniaturist. At this event, in partnership with Guardian Live, she'll be reading from The Muse and discussing both of her novels with critic, journalist, and broadcaster Alex Clark before opening questions up to the audience. The talk will be followed by a book signing.
