Second Novels - Save up to 35%

The second novel is notorious, and often for good reason. Many writers, such as Harper Lee, author of To Kill a Mockingbird, seem only to have one book in them; others were felt never to have achieved the dizzy heights of their first offering: Joseph Heller's first novel, Catch-22 is widely regarded as his best. The good news is, however, that many authors have found success, sometimes even their greatest success, with their second novel: for example, Raymond Chandler with Farewell My Lovely, Salman Rushdie with Midnight's Children, Doris Lessing for The Golden Notebook. To celebrate the publication of Audrey Niffenegger's Her Fearful Symmetry - the long awaited follow-up to The Time Traveler's Wife, we've put together a selection of some of the best second novels around.
