About This Bookstore Store Map » Bestsellers » Staff Picks »

Winner - The 100 best shops in London - BooksFoyles is delighted to have been voted Time Out's number 1 London Bookshop! We appear at number 16 on the capital's best stores too.

Orientation - The regeneration of Tottenham Court Road Underground station for Crossrail means that getting to Foyles is slightly more complicated than just walking down Charing Cross Road at the moment. To help you find us, here are a map and some instructions. A larger and print friendly version of the map can be found here.

Crossrail Map

We recommend leaving the station by exit number four * the bottom right exit on the map. You then just need to walk a little way along New Oxford Street until you're past Centrepoint (the tall office block) and turn right down the Charing Cross Road Diversion * the road has hoardings on the right blocking off the building site. This leads straight back to Charing Cross Road and Foyles is another 50m along on the opposite side of the road.

Alternatively, you can come via Leicester Square (on the Northern and Piccadilly lines), which has exits onto Charing Cross Road and is only five minutes' walk away (north, in the opposite direction to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery).

Foyles at Charing Cross

Our flagship store

We are Europe’s largest bookshop* with 5 floors and more than 200,000 titles in stock plus a wide range of gifts and stationery, magazines, printed music, classical music CDs and Classic and World DVDs as well as Ray’s Jazz Music and Books, Grant & Cutler Foreign Languages, the Cafe and a Gallery and events space.

Though founded in 1903, Foyles didn’t arrive on the Charing Cross Road until 1906, from where we quickly became the most celebrated bookshop in the world, famed for our breadth of range and in later years for the complexity of the Foyles experience, from trouble finding the book you wanted amongst our vast stockholding, to the legendary chit payment system. Following the death in 1999 of the indomitable Christina Foyle, we underwent a full refurbishment completed in 2004, which re-established us as London’s leading bookshop.

Children's DepartmentWe employ more than 80 expert booksellers who will be happy to offer any help or advice you may need. Whilst these days most bookshops are stocked by books bought centrally from head office and distributed across the chain, at Foyles our heads of department are also our buyers, so they truly are experts in their stock and subjects.

You can find out more about the history of Foyles here.

In 2011 Foyles were extremely proud to acquire the business of Grant & Cutler and welcomed them to our flagship store. Established in 1936, Grant & Cutler are the UK's largest foreign language bookseller. The best selection of Foreign Language titles remains on their website at www.grantandcutler.com.
