Brian Aldiss OBE: A Book in Time

Thursday 25th September 2014 7pm - 8pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event, Chargeable Event

We don't use terms like 'legend' or 'towering figure' lightly, but when an author of the stature of Brian Aldiss is paying you a visit, it's almost impossible to avoid them. His 60-year career is one that has shaped science fiction in all its forms in Britain and around the world, through his hugely influential work as a novelist, short story writer, editor, anthologist and artist. Works such as Hothouse, the Helliconia trilogy and Finches of Mars are firmly part of the canon, cementing (along with his numerous awards and honours) his place in the speculative fiction firmament.

Now in his 90th year, Brian Aldiss joins us to celebrate the publication of the first volume of his Complete Short Stories. As well as a precious chance to hear the author discuss his prolific and illustrious career and answer audience questions, this evening will include a reading of Aldiss's first short story ever published. 'A Book in Time' sees its protagonist inadvertently shot forward to the year 2054 and a much-changed Charing Cross Road; seeking comfort, he aims for a certain landmark bookshop: read it here.

Venue: The Auditorium at Foyles, Level 6, 107 Charing Cross Road

Tickets: £5 per person. Simply add the required number to the basket below.

Please note that no physical tickets will be issued; the email despatch confirmation you receive will be proof of your booking.
