The Lesser Bohemians: Eimear McBride in conversation

Thursday 8th September 2016 6:45pm - 8pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event

Join us for an intimate evening of conversation with award-winning author Eimear McBride as she introduces us to her new novel The Lesser Bohemians, published by Faber & Faber.

Eimear McBride’s debut novel A Girl is a Half-formed Thing took nine years to publish and subsequently received an avalanche of praise, and went on to win the inaugural Goldsmiths Prize, the Baileys Prize for Women’s Fiction, Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year, the Desmond Elliot Prize and the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize.

Her second novel is set in the vibrant atmosphere of 1990s London and is a captivating story of passion, innocence, joy and discovery.

An eighteen-year-old Irish girl arrives in London to study drama and falls passionately, dangerously in love with an older actor. This older man has a dark past that the young girl is unprepared for. The young girl has her own more recent past to reckon with. The Lesser Bohemians is about sexual passion, innocence and the loss of it. At once epic and exquisitely intimate, it is a celebration of love and how it can both destroy and create.

Eimear McBride will be reading from The Lesser Bohemians and discussing both of her novels with culture editor and New Statesman Tom Gatti before opening questions up to the audience. The talk will be followed by a book signing.

Venue: The Auditorium, Foyles, Charing Cross Road, WC2H 0DT
