Exhibition: Selected works from BEARSPACE Gallery

Friday 6th February 2015 9:30am - Friday 6th March 2015 6pm 107 Charing Cross Road Exhibition, Free Event

'To put the world on one sheet of paper - maps are the most condensed humanized spaces of all...They make the landscape fit indoors, make us masters of sights we can't see and spaces we can't cover.'

― Robert Harbison, Eccentric Spaces, MIT Press 1977

Futurecity's fourth exhibition at Foyles is Eccentric Spaces, an exhibition dealing with the urban condition, drawn from the collection of Deptford based BEARSPACE Gallery. The title is a reference to the book of the same title by Robert Harbison, a meditation on the mysterious interplay between the imagination and the spaces it has made for itself to live in. Brilliantly learned, deliberately remote in form from conventional scholarship, Eccentric Spaces is a magical book, an intellectual adventure, a celebration. This exhibition takes inspiration from Harbison's exploration of uncanny forests, brooding buildings and fictional topographies to present a series of works which reflect spaces both real and imaginary - or frequently somewhere between the two.
