Writing Through Grief: Michel Faber in conversation with Cathy Rentzenbrink

Tuesday 20th September 2016 7pm - 8pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event

Join Michel Faber in conversation with Cathy Rentzenbrink as they discuss writing while grieving, in relation to their books Undying: A Love Story and The Last Act of Love.

Michel Faber is the author of the Whitbread-shortlisted Under the Skin, The Crimson Petal and the White, and The Book of Strange New Things, which won the Saltire Book of the Year Award 2015.

Undying: A Love Story is his first collection of poems, written to honour the memory of his wife Eva, who died after a six-year battle with cancer. Her influence on Michel was unparalleled: she was his first reader, first editor, his agent, and even co-writer. Bright, tragic, candid, heartbreaking, honest and true, these poems chronicle Eva’s diagnosis, illness and death, and Michel’s mourning process. They are an exceptional account of what it means to find the love of your life. And what it is like to have to say goodbye.

Michel will be in conversation with Cathy Rentzenbrink, author of The Last Act of Love, a heartbreaking yet uplifting memoir of when her brother Matty was knocked down by a car, just two weeks before receiving his GCSE results. The family desperately prayed for his survival, but as Matty did survive, the question shifted to the condition of his life.

This is an evening of insight into grief, loss, personal expression, and of coming to terms with the unthinkable.
