This is a genre-defying, virtuoso performance of a book, hilarious and satisfying and frustrating all at once. Dyer holds up a mirror to every academic, every writer, every person with a momentous task to undertake; his account of the struggle to write about Lawrence becomes a wonderful tale of a man echoing the subject of his fascination as he attempts to understand him.
