    The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel
     fantasy novels are set for the silver screen after the rights to Michael Scott's series was bought by a production company.

    Bonaventura Pictures hopes the stories will fill the gap left in the cinema market after the completion of the Harry Potter franchise in 2011.

    The six-part series follows the story of teenage twins who travel the globe with 14th century French alchemist Nicholas Flamel, who was mentioned in the Harry Potter books and Dan Brown'sThe Da Vinci Code.

    Lorenzo di Bonaventura, founder of the production company, was involved in the launch of the Harry Potter films and told ScreenDaily that the Nicholas Flamel series is a 'natural evolution' of the fantasy genre.

    Scott added: 'I am tremendously excited with Lorenzo's passion and enthusiasm for this series. I am convinced he is the right person to bring these stories to life.'

    According to the author, he was inspired to use Nicholas Flamel as the hero of his novels after 'stumbling across' his house in Paris and discovering that he had worked as a bookseller - the same job Scott had held for years.
