Sir Andrew Motion to chair Man Booker judges
Date: 20/11/2009
Sir Andrew Motion has been named as the 2010 Man Booker Prize for Fiction's chair of judges.
Commenting on the appointment, the author said he is looking forward to a period of heavy reading, as the judges prepare to select the longlist of books under serious consideration for the prize.
The former poet laureate added: 'It's an honour to be asked to chair the Man Booker Prize, which has consistently been a focus for the best fiction of recent years.'
However, the writer admitted that he expects choosing the winning title to be a challenge and predicted there would be many 'difficult decisions' in the year ahead.
In 2009 Sir Andrew was knighted for his services to literature. He has previously won the Whitbread Prize for Biography and the Somerset Maugham Award.
Last month, Hilary Mantel was named the winner of the 2009 Man Booker Prize, taking home the GBP 50,000 reward for her novel Wolf Hall.
Other shortlisted authors included A.S. Byatt, J.M. Coetzee, Adam Foulds, Simon Mawer and Sarah Waters.
