A six-year-old girl from the Wirral in Liverpool has become the UK's youngest published author.

Charlotte Jordan from Bromborough wrote The Dancing Dinosaur after writer Damian Harvey visited her primary school during Bookweek.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Charlotte's mother said: 'She's only just started to learn to read and write – but she did it all herself.'

'She even put page numbers on, designed the front cover, put in a contents page and put future books in the series on the back,' Mrs Jordan added.

Future books in the series will include Brand New Pirates, The Naughty Cat and The Ten Legged Octopus.

Harvey, who provided inspiration for Charlotte's first book, is behind a large number of children's books including The Tin Man, Tunnel Racers and An Itch to Scratch.

The world's youngest author, according to Guinness World Records, is Christopher Beale, who wrote a 1,500-word story titled This and Last Season's Excursions, when he was just six years and 118 days old.

He beat the previous world record holder by 42 days.ADNFCR-2557-ID-19475708-ADNFCR
