  • Gordon Brown accused of 'sulking' in new book

    Date: 05/02/2010
Prime minister Gordon Brown has been accused of going into a 'furious' 13-hour sulk following the expenses scandal.

According to a new book entitled Where Power Lies, which was written by Lance Price, the Labour leader became obsessed with salvaging his own reputation once MPs' expenses exploitation came to light.

An anonymous adviser, who was a key member of Downing Street's communications team, told the author that Brown acted 'as if the only story that mattered was the one about himself'.

Commenting at the book's launch yesterday, Mr Price said: 'Whenever there was a crisis - and the expenses scandal is the perfect example - he was obsessed with saving his own skin, not with facing up to the threat to the reputation of Parliament.'

Price was Alastair Campbell's deputy when the Labour spin doctor headed up then-prime minister Tony Blair's communications operation.

Last month, the Mail on Sunday reported that the publication of Gordon Brown: A Portrait Of A Man by former Guardian journalist Suzie Mackenzie had been delayed because of fears it could impact on the upcoming general election result.ADNFCR-2557-ID-19599442-ADNFCR
