Wellcome Prize Longlist 2018 Announced

9th February 2018

The 2018 Wellcome Book Prize longlist has been announced. The prize celebrates the many ways in which literature can illuminate the breadth and depth of our relationship with health, medicine and illness. This year's longlist includes popular science, memoir, lyrical meditation and medical history as well as three works of fiction. The full list is as follows:

The Vaccine Race: How scientists used human cells to combat killer viruses by Meredith Wadman

The judging panel is chaired by artist and writer Edmund de Waal OBE alongside fellow judges Dr Hannah Critchlow, Bryony Gordon, Sumit Paul-Choudhury and Sophie Ratcliffe. Making the announcement De Waal said 'This is a remarkable time for readers, with a great flourishing of writing on ideas around science, medicine and health, lives and deaths, histories and futures.'

The shortlist for the prize will be announced on Tuesday 20 March, with the winner revealed at an evening ceremony on Monday 30 April at Wellcome Collection.
