Authentic 'moon' landing book celebrates anniversary
30th July 2009
A dozen special edition copies of Norman Mailer's Moonfire historic book are set to be published to mark 50 years since the first moon landing.
The book was published in the 1970s and includes photographs from the 1969 mission to the moon from Nasa, Life and other private collections.
In total, 1,969 copies will be republished to mark the date of the moon landing and are expected to retail at $1,000 (£609).
But the 12 extra-large special edition copies are predicted to rake in thousands of pounds for publisher Taschen America.
Each of the exclusive copies comes with pieces of moon rock that have crashed to the Earth as meteorites, ranging from small slivers to large 30g chunks.
Speaking to the Times, public relations manager at Taschen America Creed Poulson said that the addition of the moon fragment is expected to significantly increase the price of special edition books.
'It will be thousands, hundreds of thousands, of dollars. Kind of like a diamond,' he said.
