British Museum shortlisted for Art Fund Prize

The shortlist for this year's GBP 100,000 Art Fund Prize has been announced, with the British Museum one of four venues in contention.

Cambridge's Polar Museum, the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway, Scotland, and the Roman Baths Museum in Bath are also shortlisted for the prize, for which the winner will be announced at Tate Britain on June 15th.

The British Museum has been nominated for its 'A History of the World' exhibition, a collection of artefacts dating from two million years ago to the present day.

Michael Portillo, chair of the judges, said the venues included in the shortlist each exhibit 'remarkable innovation and flair'.

'Choosing a shortlist was not easy but we are agreed that these four museums and galleries excited us and clearly draw in the general public too,' he added.
