Carol Ann Duffy contributes to Christmas poetry collection

12th August 2011

Poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy has confirmed she will be contributing to a collection of festive poetry released later this year, the Twelve Poems of Christmas.

Duffy, who has held the position of poet laureate since 2009, will contribute to the third volume of the work, which will also include poems by Martin Armstrong and John Short.

The introduction to the collection will also be written by Duffy, with 7.5 per cent of the profits from the book being donated to human rights charity Amnesty International.

Jenny Swann, editor of the collection, said she feels the low retail price of GBP 5 will make it an ideal Christmas gift.

'It is good value, worthwhile in a deeper sense and a beautiful object to be kept and brought out with the Christmas decorations for years to come,' she told the Bookseller.

Last month, Duffy hosted a poetry benefit evening in a bid to raise funds for the Poetry Book Society, after the organisation's funding was cut by Arts Council England.
