DJ Chris Evans drives sales of pre-school books

17th August 2011

DJ Chris Evans has contributed to a surge in sales of books that were published over two years ago, thanks to recommendations on his Radio 2 breakfast show.

Two weeks ago, Evans recommended parents buy Andrea Pinnington's Pirate Pete's Potty, after purchasing the book himself, and the endorsement saw the title jump to number two in the pre-school charts last week, according to BookScan data.

He explained on the show: 'It's got this great little button in the corner so that you can cheer every time Pirate Pete does his business on the potty.'

Its sister title, Princess Polly's Potty, also written by Pinnington, experienced a surge in sales as well, after Evans said the interactive elements of the two books were 'a stroke of genius'.

Meanwhile, another two-year-old book, David Nicholls' One Day, sold over 41,000 copies last week across all editions, ahead of the film's adaptation hitting UK cinema screens on August 24th.
