Harper Lee cooperates with new biography
27th April 2011
A new biography of To Kill a Mockingbird author Harper Lee has been produced with the writer's help.
The Mockingbird Next Door, by former Chicago Tribune reporter Marja Mills, covers all aspects of Lee's life, from her childhood in Alabama to the publishing of her only novel, reports the Associated Press.
It also addresses why Lee never wrote a second book, instead choosing to help her friend Truman Capote with the research for In Cold Blood.
Lee is famously reluctant to talk to the media, however, she made an exception for the forthcoming book, which also features contributions from her family and friends.
The biography will be published by Penguin Press, however a release date has not yet been set.
While Lee is notoriously reclusive, back in 2006 she was persuaded to put pen to paper once again and write a letter about her childhood love of reading for an edition of Oprah Winfrey's O magazine.
That year she also granted an interview to the New York Times, her first since 1964.
