Harry Potter theme park officially opens

18th June 2010

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has opened its doors in Orlando, Florida, and has already been dubbed the most spectacular theme park attraction of all time.

A replica of Hogwarts Castle and a number of spectacular rides are expected to attract visitors from around the world.

J. K. Rowling and Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe both attended the official opening of the theme park, which included a red carpet reception and laser show.

Radcliffe said: 'It's all pretty amazing ... they have done the most fantastic job here.'

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows co-star Rupert Grint, who plays Ronald Weasley in the series of films, said: 'Just seeing the castle was the big thing for me, it gave me a chill. We should have one at home.'

Last week Boris Johnson argued that the Harry Potter theme park should have been built in London.

Writing for the Daily Telegraph, the London mayor said he resents Orlando being chosen as the books are quintessentially English.
