L.J. Smith debut to be published in the UK

5th February 2010

Two books from a bestselling teenage horror writer will be published in the UK for the first time.

Simon & Schuster Children's Books has acquired the right to two novels from L.J. Smith, who wrote the Vampire Diaries series.

The Night of the Solstice and Heart of Valour were the first books written by Smith and were published in the US in 1987.

After being updated by the author, The Night of the Solstice will be released in September 2010, while the sequel will come out in January 2011.

Venetia Gosling, fiction editorial director at Simon & Schuster UK, said: 'I've long been a fan of L.J. Smith's, having previously worked on her Night World and Vampire Diaries series.'

She added that she is 'delighted' to now publish the early novels which started Smith's writing career.

The Vampire Diaries series, which has been made into an ITV2 adaptation, currently consists of five books, including The Awakening, The Fury and Nightfall .

Two further instalments - Shadow Souls and Midnight - are due to be released later this year.
