New Royal Ballet director appointed
15th June 2011
The new director of the Royal Ballet has been appointed, with former dancer Kevin O'Hare set to take over the reins from Dame Monica Mason.
O'Hare, who was formerly principal dancer with the Birmingham Royal Ballet and has occupied roles as company director and administrative director at the Royal Ballet, said he was delighted to take on the new challenge.
'I plan to bring together the most talented artists of the 21st century to collaborate on the same stage - world-class dancers, choreographers, designers and musicians,' he explained.
His senior artistic team will include leading choreographers Wayne McGregor and Christopher Wheeldon.
Royal Opera House chief executive Tony Hall praised O'Hare's 'outstanding vision' of the future of the Royal Ballet.
O'Hare will take over from Dame Monica when she retires in July next year, after ten years in the post of director, and credited her 'inspired leadership' for helping to develop his career.
