Obama teams up with artist for new children's book

15th September 2010

Barack Obama has joined forces with American artist Loren Long to create a new illustrated book designed with children in mind.

The US president has collaborated with Long on Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters, which is set to be released in November.

Tributes to 13 iconic American figures are included in the work, with George Washington and baseball star Jackie Robinson among those whose lives are celebrated.

Obama's book offers 'an inspiring marriage of words and images, history and story', according to Chip Gibson, the president and publisher at Random House Children's Books.

Gibson added: 'Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters celebrates the characteristics that unite all Americans.'

This is not the first book to be published by Obama, with the president's previous works including The Audacity of Hope and Dreams from my Father, a memoir which focuses on the formative years of his life.
