Philip Pullman auction to boost battle against Aids
27th November 2009
Philip Pullman books will be at the centre of an online auction that is expected to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for children suffering from Aids.
The author has collaborated with publisher Oak Tree Fine Press on a new book that contains extracts from the His Dark Materials trilogy.
Just 265 copies of the new book have been created, with some editions printed by hand and all signed by Pullman and illustrated by woodcut artists.
Speaking to the Bicester Advertiser, Pullman said: 'Oak Tree produces these beautiful books that are really extracts from books by famous authors. All the profits go to children with HIV / Aids in Africa.'
Oak Tree Fine Press was set up by South African businessman Bruce Howard and has helped care for children with HIV and Aids since 2005.
The publisher has issued special edition books by several big-name authors, including John Le Carre and J.M. Coetzee.
